ＣＬＯＴＨーREMAIN of the people

　Iraq War broke out last year though we are afraid that the war would last long and plunge the people into miserable situation. Even after the declaration of the end of the war, there still remain endless disorders and daily killings. Most people recognized the 20th century as a century of war and hope the 21st century to be peaceful. However, new century could not take a magic turn from war to peace.
　The media shows full of miseries in the battlefield and a flood of refugees fleeing from disasters. Those refugees are shown in the pictures taken by the photographer S.SALGADO. Each of them is carrying a tiny white bundle of precious personal belongings and looking at the sky with vacant eyes and mind . The insides of the bundles are their own lives that are facing to death or nearly to die. Later, there only rema in their empty white bundles, which look like their tombstones.

布より−残されたもの

戦争をはじめれば、容易ならない事態に陥ることは明らか だったにも拘らず、始めてしまったイラク戦争。終息した といわれた後の泥沼化は、殺戮の日々。20世紀を戦争の世紀ととらえ、21世紀が明るい希望の世紀となることを、心から願った人々は、世紀の切れ目が魔法のように平安をもたらすものでないことを思い知らされた。流れてくる情報は、ズタズタにされ、血塗られた布切れで満ちている。 写真家サルガドの映像にはそんな場所から逃れた難民の姿が多くある。最後のわずかな所持品を布にくるんで空を見つめる。包みの中は命。いつ消えるとも分からない危うい命に寄り添った包みは、ひとが去れば、空の包みだけが残される。墓石のように。
